About National Film Awards

The National Film Awards were established in the year 1954. These awards are given for the best films in each region and language of the country which were produced in the previous year across the country.

Winners in different categories of these awards are selected by a national panel of Juries appointed by Union Government. These awards are presented by the President of India in the official ceremony. Due to the national scale of the National Film Awards, it is considered the Indian equivalent of the American Academy Awards.
